To continue learning about famous artists, today we explored Mark Rothko.
Rothko was an American abstract painter. He is best known for his color field paintings that depicted irregular and painterly rectangular regions of color.
We set out two invitations to explore & create:
1. Invitation to Paint Rectangular Boxes: With different sized recycled rectangular boxes, tempera paint, and brushes we invited the children to paint rectangles just like Rothko!
2. Invitation to Create Rothko with Loose Parts: With translucent acrylic squares/rectangles and mirrors we invited the children to create Rothko paintings with loose parts!
